What seemed like forever to get started and is nearly complete, the 2020 TC America season is approaching the second last event this coming weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. While Copeland Motorsports Hyundai drivers have garnered twelve wins between two drivers across two classes, the Maryland based team now sets their sites on the championship.

“We always start each new season thinking race wins and podiums as the primary goals with the championship secondary,” expressed Dean Copeland. “We are now at the point of the season when both become primary focus for our drivers, but also as a team to show that we are one of the premier programs.”

With nine wins to his credit, Copeland Motorsports TCR competitor Tyler Maxson leads the overall series championship by a healthy margin. With an eighty-seven-point gap to his closest rival and a maximum of seventy-five points on the line, Maxson’s magic number this weekend is thirty-nine.

“Tyler needs only thirty-nine markers across all three races this weekend to secure the title,” added Copeland. “If we can keep the car safe and do our job, Tyler could leave Texas as a back-to-back champion.”

In the TCA class, Tyler Gonzalez has been a consistent front runner but a non-points scoring three races at Road America have put him behind in the chase for the title. With three wins and seven podiums in 2020, Tyler sits forty-seven points out of the lead with a maximum of 125 points available in the remaining five races.

“It hasn’t been easy and won’t be easy but if anyone can do it, it’s Tyler and Copeland Motorsports,” continued Dean Copeland. “Road America was a terrible weekend for us in the championship but that could happen to anyone. We will keep our head down, work hard and aim to win out the season and leave the chips to fall where they may.”

With practice getting underway on Thursday, qualifying and wheel-to-wheel racing will begin on Friday and run through the weekend. Stay tuned to the Copeland Motorsports social media pages for news, photos, results and live timing and stream information from the event weekend.
