As the 2021 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich season nears a close, Copeland Motorsports Team Owner Dean Copeland is set to get back behind the wheel. As a former full-time series competitor, Copeland will pilot one of his own team cars at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca over the September 10-12 weekend.
“I love the MX-5 Cup program and always enjoy jumping behind the wheel when the opportunity presents itself,” expressed Copeland. “Laguna Seca is one of my most favorite tracks in the country and as a team, we have some very fond memories there including winning the 2019 championship with Bryan Ortiz.”
Set to compete alongside Luca Mars in one of the Copeland Motorsports house cars, Dean Copeland has provided some additional insight and goals for the 2022 season.
“We are looking to add to our program and grow as a whole, especially in the MX-5 Cup,” explained Copeland. “The series is perfect for both karters looking to go the sportscar route but also for gentleman drivers who want to have good, close racing with ample track time.”
With much success in the past several years including podium performances in 2021, Copeland Motorsports is one of the premier teams in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich Series. With a strong five car program including specifically prepared race cars, the goal has always been to win and podium, but in 2022 Copeland Motorsports is aiming to be atop the championship points battle at the end of the season.
Copeland continued, “There are multiple reasons why I am racing in Laguna but the main one is to gather even more data and add as much veteran experience to aid in our effort as much as possible.”
