As the current point leading team in the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Challenge Presented by BF Goodrich Tires, Copeland Motorsports is taking their four car effort to five beginning at the next event. Welcoming Eric Palmer to the Copeland Motorsports squad, a quintet of drivers will travel to the Dairy State and Road America for rounds five and six of the twelve race series.
“We are stoked to have Eric join our team,” explained Dean Copeland of Copeland Motorsports. “He brings even more experience to our race winning program and will be a threat for race wins and podium results right out of the gate.”
2019 has been the first year that Palmer has been racing on the professional level. Competing in the SRO GT4 America program throughout the season, Palmer has experience behind the wheel of a Global MX-5 Cup ND1 car at the local SCCA level. Taking home the Rookie of the Year honors in the SCCA Milwaukee Region, Palmer has his goals set high heading to Road America.
“I am joining a winning program and I want to win myself,” explained the Lake Forest College student. “Copeland Motorsports is leading the championship and has four drivers in the top-ten in points. They have a shot at race wins and podiums at each and every race and I am hoping to help increase those chances. Unlike many drivers in the series, I am relatively new to racing and have no karting experience, but I think that can have both advantages and disadvantages as I look to make the climb up the motorsports ladder.”
Set to take to the track on Thursday, June 20, Palmer and the rest of the Copeland Motorsports program will take advantage of the two practice sessions before official competition gets underway Friday morning with qualifying. Round five of the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Challenge Presented by BF Goodrich Tires will take place on Friday afternoon while round six goes green on Sunday late in the day.
