With their Mazda MX-5 Cup program competing alongside the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge efforts, Copeland Motorsports is set for a busy weekend at Road America. Ready to attack the 14-turn Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin facility, the Maryland based program will enter a pair of Hyundai Veloster N TCRs in their quest for a 2021 race win.
A driver lineup that has remain unchanged all season will continue again at Road America as AJ Muss and Mason Filippi will be behind the wheel of the #51 entry with Tyler Gonzalez and Tyler Maxson in the #27 Hyundai. With the goal to be the best team in the last half of the season, Copeland Motorsports got off to a good start at the latest event earning the pole position and a podium result.
“We have had decent pace all season long and that was proven by both of our cars,” explained Dean Copeland. “The entry of AJ Muss and Mason Filippi was strong early in the season and the duo of the Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez have come on as of late. We have been flat out to get things 100% for this coming weekend and though we have had little time off, we are excited to get back to the track and see what we can do.”
Copeland continued, “Including Road America, there are only four events remaining on the calendar. For us, this is the start of our 2022 season, and we will push hard to be the best pair of Hyundai Velosters in the paddock.”
Part of the huge IMSA Sportscar Weekend at Road America, the Copeland Motorsports Michelin Pilot Challenge drivers will hit the track on Friday for a pair of practice sessions before qualifying early Saturday morning. The Road America 120 will run later that afternoon with the green flag set for 5:35pm for the two-hour race.
