Dabbling in the Pirelli World Challenge TCR program throughout the 2017 season with a pair of drivers, Copeland Motorsports has a complete 2019 race season on their radar. Owning a potent Volkswagen GTI package, the Stevensville, Maryland operation is in the search for a driver that is looking to compete with their program in a combined effort in 2019.
“Our program will require a funded driver, but we will work with them in whatever way possible to try and secure team sponsorship to lower their overall costs,” explained Dean Copeland. “While many teams have drivers in their programs, we like to consider Copeland Motorsports drivers as Partners in a growing program. We understand that drivers may have sponsors or partners that they bring to the table, so we will do our best to work with you and them in whatever role is needed towards a common goal of success.”
In 2018, one of the most famous last names in all of motorsports, Andretti, chose Copeland Motorsports as their team of choice as Jarret Andretti piloted the Volkswagen GTI while Bryan Ortiz jumped behind the wheel late in the season. While learning the car as well as the complete TCR program, Copeland Motorsports and Ortiz secured a third place podium result at Lime Rock Park.
Copeland continued, “I think we have the setup dialed on the car as we were the only team running a Volkswagen to score a podium result in the series in 2018. We are looking for a breakout year in 2019 and can’t wait to get started with our off season test program.”
Copeland added, “If we have a couple of drivers looking to do one off events, or partial seasons, we will work with them. We want to make sure the Copeland Motorsports Volkswagen GTI is on the grid in 2019 and expand the program in the future.”
