The Toyota GR Cup North America program heads to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) this weekend for the season’s final event. Copeland Motorsports, who have already claimed the 2024 Team and Drivers Championships, want to continue their winning ways in Indianapolis to end the season strong and build momentum toward their 2025 campaign.
Last time out at Barber Motorsports Park, all four Copeland drivers had impressive performances, starting in qualifying one where all four drivers earned starting positions in the top-ten. In race one, Gresham Wagner and Westin Workman finished one and two, and Jaxon Bell and Mia Lovell also finished in the top-ten. After all four drivers qualified in the top-ten in race two, Wagner and Workman finished on the podium in second and third, Bell finished fifth, and Lovell finished 22nd after contact late in the race.
Wagner’s strong performance in Alabama earned him the Toyota GR Cup Series Championship for 2024, and the strong performance of the team as a whole earned them the 2024 Team Championship.
“Barber was a successful weekend for us, and it was great to wrap up both championships in the penultimate round,” explained Dean Copeland, owner of Copeland Motorsports. “Though the fight for the 2024 championship is done, the fight for wins and podiums isn’t, and we are looking to end the season in the strongest way possible in Indianapolis.”
Along with the four drivers who competed at Barber Motorsports Park, Copeland Motorsports is also adding a fifth driver to their already strong lineup for the weekend in Indianapolis, bringing on Axel Cabrera in the #51 machine.
“Axel has been strong in everything he has run in, so he will be a valuable addition to our team,” Copeland continued. “We are fully focused on ending the season on a high note at IMS, and Axel will help us do that.”
The Toyota GR Cup North America field will take to the track on Thursday for a pair of practice sessions. Qualifying one will take place Friday, and race one will be held Saturday morning. Qualifying two and race two on Sunday will close out the 2024 Toyota GR Cup North America season.
