Bringing five drivers to the final event of the Toyota GR Cup North America season, 2024 Driver and Team Champions Copeland Motorsports had another strong weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, earning multiple wins and podium finishes.
“It was another strong weekend for us, which was a nice way to close out the season,” explained Dean Copeland, Owner of Copeland Motorsports. “Our drivers had strong pace all weekend long, which they showed both in qualifying and the races. The work does not stop for us as 2025 starts now!”
Qualifying for race one saw four of Copeland’s drivers clock times that earned them top-ten starting positions, with Westin Workman scoring the team’s best-starting position of second. Gresham Wagner grabbed the third position on the grid, Mia Lovell finished the qualifying session in seventh, and Jaxon Bell finished right behind her in eighth. Axel Cabrera, joining the team for his Toyota GR Cup North America debut, had a solid first qualifying session, and would start race one from row ten.
Two Copeland drivers finished on the podium in race one Saturday morning, with 2024 Champion Wagner claiming his ninth win of the season and Workman bringing home a third-place finish. Lovell was the highest-finishing female in 13th, Bell finished P18, and Cabrera came home 21st in his first GR Cup North America race.
Back on track Sunday morning for the weekend’s second qualifying session, Copeland Motorsports had another strong showing, with three drivers setting top-ten times. Wagner secured a front-row starting position with the second-fastest time. Workman was fourth quickest, Bell finished the session in seventh, Lovell 13th, and Cabrera in 22nd.
In race two, Wagner earned his tenth win of the season, and Bell joined him on the podium in the third position. Cabrera had a strong second race, moving forward to earn his best result of the weekend in 13th in only his second career GR Cup Series race. Lovell finished race two in 16th, and Workman was classified as finishing 28th after early race issues.
“It’s great to finish the season with two more wins and some additional podium results,” Copeland expressed. “I’m proud of how we did this weekend, with each of our drivers showing their strength throughout. Axel did well in his debut weekend, and it was great to have him join us. Now, our focus turns to 2025, and we want to replicate our success this year next season.”
