Taking on the 4.048-mile Road America circuit this past weekend, Copeland Motorsports left the weekend with more results added to their resume. With one win and three podium results, Gresham Wagner climbed to the podium’s top step in race two with Jaxon Bell and Westin Workman both earning podium finishes.
Leading the way in Saturday’s qualifying, Copeland Motorsports flexed their muscles by putting all four of their entries in the top-five. Gresham Wagner scored the fastest lap of the session to earn the pole position with Westin Workman making it a Copeland Motorsports front-row lockout in second. Jaxon Bell kept the Copeland train going in third, while Mia Lovell was the highest qualifying female and in the fifth position, to put Copeland Motorsports drivers first, second, third, and fifth for the start of race one.
In a race that featured a ton of action on a damp but drying racetrack, it was a challenging one for Copeland Motorsports. With changing conditions and contact due to no fault of their own, Bell attained the team’s best finish and stood on the podium in the second position. Workman, who took the lead from Wagner on the opening lap, fell back as the race went on but secured a P5 result in the end while Wagner dropped to tenth in the final tally. Mia Lovell crossed the line in 15th.
Back to the track Sunday and hoping for better results, Wagner once again led the Copeland Motorsports quartet in qualifying as all four drivers finished in the top-seven. Gresham Wagner qualified second, just ahead of Jaxon Bell in third and Westin Workman in fourth. Mia Lovell was seven after the 15-minute session and would start her second wheel-to-wheel race from the inside of row four.
Finding their familiar spot at the front of the field, Gresham Wagner and Westin Workman were able to gain another one – two finish for Copeland Motorsports and finish the weekend on a high. Extending the Team Championship point lead, Wagner also extended his point lead in the Driver Championship. Mia Lovell put a trio of team drivers in the top-ten with a seventh-place result and the highest-finishing female while Jaxon Bell failed to complete the full race distance due to a blown engine.
“What a hectic weekend,” explained Dean Copeland. “Weather provided a ton of issues, especially in Saturday’s race, but we found our way back to the front on Sunday in another solid finish for the team. Not only was it two drivers on the podium, it was great for our championship hopes.”
With just over two weeks until the next event, the Copeland Motorsports program will regroup and shift their focus to the next one. Set to take on the picturesque Barber Motorsports Park over the September 6-8 weekend, team drivers will aim high in the penultimate Toyota GR Cup North America event of the 2024 season.
